Confessions of a S.A.H. (stay at home) Mommy

I believe that humor is what gets us through the rough times.  Allow me to entertain you with my experience today.

Set the scene-I have been wearing my work-out clothes since 7:00 am in the hopes of getting at least a 3 mile run in today.  My wonderful husband tries to give me every opportunity to attain my goal, unfortunately life got in my way.  He had to leave for work around 2:30, which left me solo for the remainder of the day.  My handsome son informs me how much he really wants to go to his school's Open House tonight.  It was from 6-7, so I informed him that we might be able to squeeze in a little cameo.  After taking my husband his dinner and feeding myself and the kids, we were looking at 5:00.  So I quickly drove home to wash my face, still in work-out clothes, and get shoes for the kids.  They both picked their new (too big for them) rain boots.  Perfect!  I load up the car and we get to the school right at 6:00.  As I start to unbuckle my beautiful daughter, I smell an order.  You all know the one!  Lucky for me I had an extra pull-up and wipes in my purse.  I inform the dynamic duo that we will be making a quick stop at the restroom before we go to the classrooms.  Raise your hands if you have ever experienced the "blow out".  Hmmmm, that's what I thought.  SO, I finally get my daughter into a clean pull-up, throw her dirty one AND pink skirt in the trash, all the while my son is giving me commentary on what he is observing.  She quickly puts her boots on and we head to the classrooms.  You guessed it, I was THAT mommy.  My daughter in a tee shirt, pull-up and rain boots.  Nice!  Luck for me, the director had extra pants and let us borrow a pair.  We play for half an hour and start to head to the car.  By this time I need to use the restroom.  But I figure I can hold it until we get home.  Wouldn't you know it, just as I get the kids buckled up, I SNEEZE!  Any mommy can tell you what happened next.  I quickly get in the car and head home.  Ahhhhh, the joys of me.

To be continued...

Kids just want to have fun!

Last night I hosted bunco, now becoming ladies game night!  I knew that some of the husbands had to go to a meeting, so we had the mommies bring their kids.  We gave the evening a fun theme, PJ Party!  All the kids looked so cute in their jammies.  The mommies even participated.  We served pizza, popcorn, gummy bears, M & M's and puppy chow.  All the ingredients for a good time.  I loved how the kids all sat around a single table to eat their pizza.  I think they all had fun, mommies too!

Update!! CN 2009

We are excited in the school office!

Look at all the goodies!

PLEASE!!!  Can we open it now?

Friday night, around 9:00, the phone rang.  When I answered it, a woman on the other line asked to speak to Owen Arnett.  I informed the caller that he was in bed sleeping and that I was his mother.  She then introduces herself as president of the PTO and that Owen had won the "Family Fun Night" gift basket.  Now remember we only bought 6 tickets.  And we put them into 6 different drawings for various gift baskets.  Owen must have the luck of the Irish!  We decided not to tell him until Monday when we picked him up from school.  We then drove to Wheatland Elementary and went into to the office to get our "bag of goodies".  Allow me to list the run down of what all came in it.

Carnival Night-2009

Tonight was PTO Carnival Night at Wheatland Elementary.  Yep, that is where our big boy will be going to kindergarten next year.  We thought it would be fun to check it out.  It was awesome!  They had two bouncers in the gym, popcorn and cotton candy in the cafeteria (Owen didn't like it, as you can tell by the picture.  Allie LOVED it!), cake walk in the music room and various other games in other classrooms.  All down the hall they had what some would call "gift baskets" to be won through raffle tickets they sold.  These things were HUGE!  One basket had a Wii and about $500 worth of other things all packaged together for the "gamer basket".  There was a "4th of July basket" that included a huge GRILL!  Owen went down the hall and picked out the ones we signed up for.  The kids each got to do the cake walk a few times, but we didn't win any cakes.  Owen then tells me, "It's okay.  Nennie is coming soon and she makes the best cupcakes!"  To top our evening of fun off, we met our friends the Williams there.  Owen is so excited for next year!  I even asked him if we can go again next year.  His response, "You can come when I'm 5."  Does this mean I can't the next year?

It has already begun...

Today, Allie took her nap like she always does.  She always looks like an angel when she sleeps.  After about 2 hours, I thought I had heard something come from her room.  I wasn't in too big of a hurry, so when I opened her door there she was.  She was sitting on the side of her bed with her feet on her step stool and a bottle of her Sleeping Beauty nail polish open and ever so carefully painting her finger nails!  (If you close your eyes you can totally see the image I saw.  Unfortunately, no pictures were taken.)  She got two finger tips and her thumb tip on one hand painted and a handful of drops on her sheets and blanket.  "I'm getting pretty!"  She tells me with a cute smile.  Who can argue with that?

Zoo Trip on Earth Day

Jake was off of work this whole week, so early in the week he suggested that we all go to the zoo on Thursday morning.  We could get up, go eat breakfast at The Good Egg and get to the zoo right when it opens.  Wonderful plan!  The weather was amazing!  Except for the fact that the zoo was hosting Boeing Earth Day.  I think every elementary school in the area was there for a school field trip!  We got there at 8:45 and it was already busy.  The kids were wonderful!  Owen even got to buy a toy in the gift shop with his allowance he had been saving for 2 weeks.  As crazy as it was at the zoo, we had "the best zoo trip EVER!" according to Owen as we were leaving.

Girl Update!

Today's blog is just going to be a general update on the "Big Girl".  We went to the dentist this morning for a check on her tooth.  The bad news, it is still a little lose and he thinks it might be starting to turn colors.  The longer the tooth stays the better.  Wish us luck!  The good news, they decided to go ahead and start her on 6 month cleanings since we were there.  Allie was so brave!  She just laid back, the chair scared her at first but no crying, and did everything they asked.  Both the dental hygienist and Dr. Brown were impressed with her.  I was blown away!  She even let me take her picture.

The word on the big girl bed is... AWESOME!  She never leaves her room.  She takes her naps and goes to sleep in the bed just like normal.  I go in and she is just laying there awake waiting for me.  During the nights, she has been waking up scared once.  I go in cover her up and start her sea horse music and she lays back down and goes right to sleep.  Last night, at around 1:00, she fell out of bed!  When I got to her room, she was just standing in the doorway waiting for me, crying.  I went ahead and changed her pull-up and gave her a big hug.  I laid her down and covered her up.  She then went back to sleep.  She stays in bed until around 6:30 or 7:00 when I can hear her talking.  Then I go in and get her up.

Life is good, and moving pretty fast.  I just hope I take enough pictures to capture it all!
